Special Exhibition

The museum is open in two periods each year, spring and autumn. In the spring, the museum holds two exhibitions in the first and second halves, while in the autumn, the museum holds three exhibitions throughout the year.

2019 Autumn Exhibition: Mitate Noh Play Takeshima

Permanent Exhibition

In the hall on the first floor, a constantly rotating exhibition of Kyoto’s local doll collection includes Saga dolls, Gosho dolls, Kamo dolls, costumed dolls, and more. In the permanent exhibition room on the second floor, approximately 8,000 unique local dolls from all over Japan are on display at all times. The dolls include Kyoto’s Fushimi dolls, as well as clay dolls, kneaded dolls, and paper mache dolls from all over Japan, whose manufacturing methods and materials reflect the characteristics of each region.

The waiting room is a very rare diamond shaped room, and the tatami mats are also diamond shaped.
